July 29: Los Angeles, CA

Located in the Santa Clarita Valley section of Los Angeles County, Brave New World has been serving the pop culture epicenter of the valley since 1990. That commitment to service was recognized by the Eisner Awards in 2008, but it’s been apparent to customers of the store for nearly two decades now. The store’s philosophy, says owner Atom! Freeman, is to not only be the one place people need for comics and graphic novels, but to be the one place they want to stop by every week. “We do this by some of the usual means (book clubs, in-store gaming, signings), as well as some not-so-usual means (art classes, Geek Singles Night, live entertainment),” he says. “We like the idea of being the Third Place between work and home and are always looking for ways to fill that gap. Plus, did we mention that we like comics?”

BNW is one of the best comics shops that I have ever been to, (and I have been going to shops since the 1980) Atom and Portlyn are incredible hosts and they run a pretty cutting edge shoppe.
