Times Get Tough for Heroes in Times Square

Those of us who walk through Times Square on a regular basis are used to seeing some weird things. Usually, at the very least, it's a matter of fighting your way through throngs of people while trying to avoid people like the Naked Cowboy and silently cursing anyone who would come to New York and actually eat at the Olive Garden or (shudder) the Hard Rock Cafe. But yesterday there was another sight entirely: Batman in handcuffs and Superman on the ground being taken into custody by the police. What brought on the confrontation? Apparently, according to this story in the New York Post, two young men thought it would be fun to dress up as their favorite superheroes and do a little panhandling. People asking for money on the street in New York are practically ubiquitous, so the catch here was the costumes. Cops wanted to know if they had the proper license to act in costumes on the street. (New York takes its theatrics very seriously indeed, so don't try to push it.) In the end, it looks like the guy in the Batman costume was let go, but Superman...well, that guy caused some trouble. Never do that, believe me. No matter who you're dressed up as.
