Two of my childhood comics idols, Chris Claremont and Paul Levitz, will be appearing together next week at Columbia for a talk entitled Claremont & Levitz: Jewish Influences & Themes in American Comics. Presented by the Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies, the talk will take place at Columbia University's Schermerhorn Hall from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13. Claremont (The Uncanny X-Men) and Levitz (The Legion of Super-Heroes) were the absolute tops for me in my childhood and on into my teen years. There simply were no better as far as I was concerned. I'm fascinated to hear what they're going to have to say about comics and Jewish influences. With the many decades of comics experience between the two of them, and the vast behind-the-scenes information they both have, I think this talk will be incredible. Check it if you can.
