One Christmas Eve night, a group of friends were having a merry time at a Christman party, not a care in the world…when a horde of demons attacked! This is the story of Yuuto Amakawa’s Christmas in the trenches.

 

Tamamo-no-Mae (the Nine-Tailed Fox) and Shuten-Douji are beginning to take the aggressive approach, sending masses of demonic scum after the young demon-slayer-in-training, and right on the night on which he has made the fateful decision to devote himself to becoming a demon slayer in practice as well as in name. Good thing Himari the Noihara Crimson Blade is always there to help him. If only she could get her demon nature in check though, because she is quickly beginning to enjoy the thrill of the hunt.

 

Through his training, Yuuto’s Light Ferry abilities are slowly improving, but the constant attacks by demons are getting in the way of him learning to fully harness the Light Ferry’s great power. Maybe he’ll benefit from the emergence of yet another slayer youth, Hitsugi Yakouin, who fancies herself a prodigal detective. Be that as it may, she may well turn out to be an asset in the fight against Douji and the Nine-Tails, if she hasn’t driven the protagonists crazy with frustration by then, that is.

 

Yuuto still wishes to hold fast to his pacifist ways and live in peace and harmony with Ayakashi, but he also understands that some Ayakashi simply will not reform, such as Shute-Douji and Tama, and therefore, must die, lest they become a threat to humanity.

 

This phase of Milan Matra’s thrilling fantasy story can be described as the calm before the storm. However, elements of calm and storm are constantly getting mixed up, going from one to the other almost at the drop of a hat. Although somewhat drawn out, this phase makes up for it by giving us some opportunities for some sick, bloody action where necessary, and even more gratifying fan service wherever possible
