Zombie-Loan, Vol. 13

Previously, it was revealed that Michiru Kita was a “Singularity,” but what exactly is a Singularity?

When Michiru was born, she was meant to be stillborn, but as a result of being an irregularity of the Akashic records, she was artificially created as a Singularity by Hakka, the new president of the Ferryman River Department in WFO. Hakka seeks to use Michiru’s powers as a Singularity to undo the fundamental logic of the world, like a black hole that starts out small and eventually draw in everything, including light and time.

Right now, Michiru has been separated from her friends Chika Akatsuki and Shito Tachibana, and they are struggling to come to terms with the harsh reality that has been forced upon them, trying to get to her and reclaim her as theirs. But when they finally confront Hakka, they find themselves facing off against Michiru, who protects Hakka like a puppet.

Multiple sides are fighting the fate that Hakka is determined to bring about, and Michiru is right in the thick of it, being forced to bring about the end of the world. In order to save the life she knew, she must find a way to reverse the process and turn back time and space, but what will happen if she does?

Determination to live and the importance of strong emotions are heavily emphasized in this volume. In fact, Bekko reveals that these are the reason he created the Zombie-Loan, gathering money to take out loans on people’s lives, and in doing so, allowing Chika and Shito to be saved.

The artwork in this manga is extremely intricate and mesmerizing, and the drama of the emotions felt by the characters is positively contagious, spreading to the reader like a disease…but in a good way.

Peach Pit produced a real work of art when they came up with Zombie-Loan.
